As Joint Senior Partner and Head of Property, Chris is responsible for ensuring we continue to offer the best possible service to our clients, as well as playing a key role in guiding the overall direction of the firm.

With over 30 years’ experience advising private individuals and investors in all aspects of residential conveyancing, Chris is one of the reasons why Longmores has maintained such an excellent reputation for our residential property services.

Clients value Chris’s sensible, practical and constructive approach. Chris loves helping clients get where they want to go with their property, making sure they can achieve what they want with as little fuss and stress as possible.

As the person largely responsible for the internal management of the firm, Chris really values the interaction he has with his fellow Partners and the rest of the team, helping to make Longmores a great place to work that does great work for our clients.

Career

Chris studied Law (LLB) at the University of Southampton before starting his legal career as an Articled Clerk at a local law firm in Cambridge in 1984. Two years later, Chris qualified as a Solicitor and began specialising in general property matters.

In 1988, he moved to a different firm acting for clients across all areas of residential property law for the next nine years.

Chris joined Longmores in 1997 and has been a key part of the firm ever since. He became a Partner and Head of Residential Conveyancing in 2001, then Joint Senior Partner in 2017 while continuing to lead the Residential Conveyancing team.

As one of the longest serving and most experienced members of the Longmores team, Chris provides essential leadership both to his team and across the firm as a whole in his role as Joint Senior Partner.

Expertise

Chris specialises in all aspects of residential property including:

  • Sales and purchases of both freehold and leasehold properties
  • Buy-to-let and investment properties
  • Re-mortgages
  • Inter-family transfers

He has recently been acting for clients on the following matters:

  • The purchase of a residential property with additional land for agricultural grazing
  • The sale of flats on new long leases in a converted building
  • The purchase of an investment property used as a House of Multiple Occupation
  • The purchase of a property under a deadline from the seller to exchange contracts and complete within 14 days

Community

Chris is very active in his local community, being a trustee of the Hertfordshire Festival of Music and a trustee of Hertford Museum. He was also Deputy Under Sheriff of Hertfordshire from 2020 until 2023.

Recognition

Chris is a member of the Law Society Property and the Law Management sections.

The Longmores Residential Conveyancing team are members of the Law Society Conveyancing Quality Scheme.
